The Malacanang declared February 23 as a holiday for public and private schools, after a confusion over the so-called holiday economics a.k.a. holiday “urong-sulong” adjustments and yeah, a sudden realization that we already have too much long holidays previously. I am so allergic with all these holiday “urong-sulong” fiasco and I am wondering why cant just Malacanang leave alone all those dates in the calendar and let our organizations adjust to the usual calendar accordingly.
The pesky holiday “urong-sulong” economics definitely DO NOT HELP most of us because most of us are being annoyed of the urong-sulong-ala-patintero they always make of the holidays. And yes, it does not help the businesses either. It is such a pain in the neck.
Of course, the EDSA holiday is meant to celebrate what the Filipino people have done during the EDSA 1 Revolution (or Revolt – whatever the historians say about the proper term to accompany the term EDSA 1).
EDSA 1 showed the uniting spirit of the Filipinos and their binding capacity to overthrow dictatorship and restore democracy. Okay, I believe in the spirit of EDSA 1 ( and knowing Ninoy Aquino Jr. is one of my favorite heroes along with Gat Jose Rizal). We have the spirit there.
But with the so-called EDSA DOS – I am freaking disappointed and even regretted that it happened (even though I did not directly participated on it – I am siding with Mr. Estrada that time). I did not believe in the lies and hypocrisy of EDSA Dos because during that time, people just chose the worst apple among the bad apples in the political bunch.
I admit that I sided with Mr. Estrada – not because I adhere to his “babaero and sugarol” image but because when the so-called EDSA DOS happened – the impeachement proceedings were halted, the second envelope was never opened because of the pag-iinarte of some senators and because of the elitist manipulation among students and common civilians.
The questions were never answered: Is Mr. Estrada truly guilty? What is the defining evidence (and foolproof too) that will definitely convicted Mr. Estrada? Is the testimonial account of Mr. Chavit Singson really bears weight or was it pushing the case away from him and lashing it on Mr. Estrada? As far as I am concerned, Chavit is also a jueteng lord – we all heard his accounts that he received the Jueteng payola – so what makes him different from the person he is accusing of “The Lord of All Jueteng Lords?”
Another thing is that Mr. Estrada never tendered his resignation. Try to repeat all those tapes from that time – there is not even a mention of the word resignation itself. Mr. Estrada left Malacanang out of his intention to restore the tattered public image of Philippine politics and for his family too – who are deeply affected to what have happened to their father.
Sad to say that for me, EDSA Dos is a hypocrite movement – people just mistaken a typical bad apple politician to a messiah chorva who can clean up Mr. Estrada’s acts. There maybe no perfect president but as citizens of the Philippine Republic, we should discern which leader would lead us – just chose the lesser evil or bad apple among the rotten bunch of apples.
The so-called Spirit of EDSA remained in 1986 – it was never propagated the next years or so. It just stucked in that year and after a couple of months and years – people have forgotten the lesson it taught us – that democracy is the true power of people – uninfluenced by the manipulative others who want to use the power of people for their own political and personal gain. Heck, I dont consider Chavit Singson as an EDSA Dos hero.
The true power of people lies within us – our own discernment and somewhat instinctive look and knowing who are the leaders who are capable and not. It is uninfluenced by others – sa ating nagmumula ang kapangyarihan na iyon. Hindi sa kung sinong pontio pilato, kulano o kulana.
I also find it funny that people have already forgotten the EDSA Tres. I may find that scenario of masses reacting angrily over what has happened in the political arena. Ayun, mga masa talaga yun. Heck, I might consider EDSA Tres to be more genuine than EDSA Dos. Nakakatawang isipin pero pakiramdam ko sa EDSA na yan e ginagamit na pang-uto sa mga tao.
Is the spirit of EDSA dead or not? Think for yourself. For me, its BARELY BREATHING waiting for its death somewhere.
Now, is everyone happy with their chosen leader nung EDSA Dos? Have we achieved the happy ending in our EDSA fairytale? Sad to say, its all NOTHING.
