Meet Bruce!!!

I have one companion in my house. He never leaves me, he is always with me – everytime I eat, work and sleep. Katabi ko siya minsan sa pagtulog. I enjoy his company. I can see love in his eyes. I have fun times with him and we have fun memories with each other. Kahit na may mga times na I am heartbroken and hollow, he is the one who fills me up. Everytime he looks at my eyes, it feels like na masarap mabuhay kahit na minsan, may mararamdaman kang hinanakit. He’s faithful and loyal – and yeah, I know, he loves me -  A WHOLE LOT!!!

His name is BRUCE. You want to meet him? Here he is:

I have pet dogs at home – three of them. The names of the other two are Mhello and Myxz. Mhello is 9 years old and Myxz is 5 years old.  On the other hand, Bruce is 1 year old and the pinakamakulit of the bunch. Hindi ko alam ang lahi nya. Ang alam ko e askal ang hayuff na ito. Haha. We used to keep breeds in the house – we have 4 of them dati pero alas, they are dead because of parvo. Malakas na virus ang parvo so it is recommended to have your pups vaccinated while they are young. I have one dog dati – Si Max, a Japanese Spitz na na-euthanize dahil ang parvo niya e umakyat na sa utak at parang nauulol na. So no choice, we have to let the vet euthanize him. Oh boy, I loved that dog too – and shet – isang linggong maga ang mata ko sa kakaiyak. My mother loved that dog too kaya pag nakikita nya ang pictures ni Max, ayun, humihingi na ng tissue. Naiiyak pa rin siya hanggang ngayon.

Askals or asong kalye or mutts (in high falutin English..haha) came from different breeds. And because of their mixed lineage, some of them have become resistant to doggy diseases that have plagued other breeds. So that is why, to save ourselves from emotional predicaments everytime there is a dog dying in our house, we have to get askals na lang. So far so good naman. They have lived healthy lives naman like Mhello who is 9 years old. Pag may namamatay kasing aso sa bahay, susmaryosep, talo ko pa ang namatayan ng kamag-anak or kaibigan. Emotionally distraught din ako like sa case ni Max na nag-ngawngaw ako sa vet clinic.

Si Bruce e binigay lang ng neighbor namen. Our neighbor asked mother to choose kung sino sa mga pups ang kukunin nya. Then she chose a cream-colored male pup. Mukhang maamo at mabait kaya yun ang napili nya. One night, I arrived from work, I saw our higanteng planggana sa sala. Nagtaka ako. And suddenly, a cream-colored pup popped its head out from the planggana with his tail wagging pa!! Sa isip ko noon, aba!!  ang cordial naman ng asong ito. And then he ran like mad to me, as if asking me to carry him in my arms.

Kinarga ko naman at ayun, ang hayuff, sumiksik sa kili-kili ko (parang trip pang amuyin ang aking deodorant that day…loko talaga). And those little brown eyes looked at me for the first time. Yung tipong you get the feeling that he is happy to see you. Hahaha.

Then I talked to him. Seriously. I talked to dogs more than to people. I dont know why but they seem to understand everything I say. I asked the pup kung anong name na gusto nya. He wagged his tail – a confirmation that he understood me nga. (E di nalaman nyo kung gaano ako ka-lukring sa bahay…hahha) Nag-isip naman ako ng name. Then the first name that came to my mind was Bruce. So I said, “Gusto mo ang name mo e Bruce?”

And his tail wagged wildly as a sign of confirmation and acceptance of his name. Kakatawa noh. Haha…weirdong aso din. Hahaha..

Like my other dogs, Bruce has his own habits. First, he likes to eat Rebisco and Magic Flakes. He really loved those crackers. And then, ayaw niya ang pagkain di sariwa. He wants his food hot and fresh as much as possible. He eats almost anything. Ayaw ng mga dogs ko ang too much meat. They also want a variation of veggies and meat. Lalo na si Bruce – he eats veggies from ampalaya to talong to saluyot.

Another thing, he has a habit to wake us up at 6am. Kakatok sa pintuan, sabay papasok sa kwarto then he would lick your face. Malas mo pag di ka nagising dahil mangangamoy laway ka ni Bruce. Haha. And then, yayakagin niya ang sister ko to take him for a walk at 8am. How can we know that? Natural, panay ang tahol at talon – that means he wants to go out na and have a walk. Hahah.

Another thing, he is super friendly. He likes interacting with other people and other animals – even cats!! Sabi ko, uber naman ang pagkafriendly neto. Minsan makes me wonder kung aso ito or what. Haha. Makulit din itong si Bruce. He likes jumping all over the sofa and play with Myxz sa sala. Uber kulet.

If I am taking meryenda, lagi ko siyang kasalo. Except of course sa chocolates kasi lethal ang chocolates sa dogs. Haha. Pero pag alam nyang kumakain na ako ng crackers during my work, ayun uupo na siya sa tabi ko at manghihingi. Minsan magpapa-awa effect pa ang mokong. Hahaha.

Kaya minsan, mas marami pa siyang nakakain kesa sa akin. Kakatawa nga minsan. There are times na mas masarap pa ang ulam niya kesa sa amin. There was a time na nag-ulam lang kami ng tuyong kara-o at dilis with okra tapos ang mga aso namin e chicken pitso, breast at liver. Tawa na lang tuloy si father. Hahaha.

My mother has a passion for dogs. Mahilig talaga siya sa aso kaya no wonder, we also feel the same way towards dogs. We also like dogs.

Kaya ako, pag may nakikita akong abusado sa hayop, sumasama din ang loob ko. Kasi di ba? who are we to maltreat them? They may be animals but it doesnt give us the right to hurt, maim, and eat them. Lalo na yung mga dog-eaters. Mainit ang dugo ko sa mga iyon. Dont tell me its culture or something pero I dont think dogs deserve to be on their menu.

So ngayon, na-meet nyo na ang aking boylet na si Bruce. Haha. At hay, andito na naman siya sa sala, kasama ko during these unholy hours of the evening. Haha.
