Dreaming of Batanes

Posted by Silver on Nov 6, 2009 in Journeys / Travels, Life's musings |

If I would be asked what is the best place for me here in the Philippines? I will proudly say Batanes. Heck, if I got money and plan to retire later in life, I would love to go to Batanes. :)

Of all places, why Batanes? We all know that Batanes is always on the path of storms in the Philippines – well – they are always experiencing storms all throughout the year. But still, even if Batanes lies in the path of storms every year, I’d still choose that place instead of Manila. You can see in the picture below that the houses there are made from solid stones and corals. O di ba? Storm-proof!

I can say that Batanes does not have rainy or stormy weather all throughout the year. There are also sunny days in Batanes. I love the serene and wonderful countryside views there. The lives of the people are simple and no complications at all. Where can you find a place in the Philippines that matches Batanes’ crime rate? Mind you, the crime rate in that place is next to zero. People in that province knew each other. The Ivatans, natives of that place are known for the simple and frugal life. They even have a coffee shop without a cashier man lang. Yes, the famous Honesty Coffee Shop where people just drop their payments in the bucket stationed there.

Another thing that I liked about Batanes (even though I havent been there) is its remoteness from the toxic lives in the city. Blame it on my barriotic roots, I still prefer to live in the provinces rather than in the main cities of Manila or even Makati. I would love to get my hands dirty in farming rather sitting all day long in posh corporate office, working for somebody else’s ass. And of course, hindi lang ang farmville ang gagawin ko noh. Tunay na farming na! Hahaha.

Someday, (forgive me peeps because I am really dreaming of Batanes here) with luck and money, I will go to Batanes and live there. Despite its prevalence in the news especially during the storm season, it is still one nice place to live. Heck, hindi lang hinarbat na litraks ang makikita nyo dito sa susunod. Baka mga litraks ko na from Batanes – the real deal na! :)
